We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate, belong, and feel welcomed in their community.

Airdrie Inclusive is a community initiative working to remove barriers and create belonging for people with disabilities by supporting families, businesses, and organizations through education, resources, advocacy, and practical inclusion supports.

Because inclusion is not just about making spaces accessible. It is about creating a community where people do not have to question whether they belong.

WHY IT MATTERS

In 2022, Statistics Canada reported that more than 1 in 4 people over the age of 15 live with one or more disabilities.

Too many families and individuals living with disabilities face barriers to participating in everyday community life.

For many families, attending an event, visiting a business, joining a program, or simply navigating public spaces requires additional planning, support, and emotional preparation. Participation becomes inconsistent—or sometimes impossible—not because people do not want to be involved, but because barriers exist.

At the same time, many businesses and organizations genuinely want to be inclusive but do not always have the tools, resources, or guidance needed to make that intention a reality.

Airdrie Inclusive exists to help bridge that gap.

Inclusion isn’t just about accessibility—it’s about participation in everyday life. Too many families are still navigating barriers that make simple community participation difficult.

Our Vision

Our vision is an Airdrie where families choose to put down roots because accessibility and inclusion are built into the community from the beginning.

A community where:

  • People with disabilities and their families can participate in everyday life without hesitation or uncertainty.

  • Businesses and organizations have the tools and knowledge to create welcoming experiences.

  • Accessibility is considered from the start—not added only after barriers are identified.

  • Belonging is something everyone can expect.
